GSF Opelika, Alabama associate Mark Sheppard celebrated 29 years of dedicated service to the company in September. In 1994, he joined GSF’s Conyers, Georgia-based Protein Products operations team and later transitioned to the new Opelika facility. Through the years, Mark earned promotions into lead, supervisor, and manager positions of more responsibility. At different points in his career, he focused on inventory control, purchasing raw materials, and continuous improvement.
Today, as Assistant Operations Manager, Mark guides his team in using various technology-based production management tools, including tablet-based operations monitoring and training systems, as well as scanners and inventory management platforms. When asked about what he enjoys most in his job role, Mark notes he appreciates both the challenges he gets to tackle and the values-driven people at GSF.
“I’m grateful that the GSF management team saw my potential and assisted me in growing into this position,” says Mark. “I am very fortunate to have had the opportunities that I did to allow me and my family to have a good life.”
Mark credits his GSF career success to his “willingness to learn and grow as a person, just be a sponge, and take in the information.” He encourages others to “Ask questions and learn all you can from your fellow team members.”
In reflecting on his nearly three decades with GSF, Mark explains,“It’s like cheese—just keeps getting better as it ages!”
