In honor of our esteemed United States Veterans, GSF recognizes the many associates within our family of companies who have bravely served in the U.S. armed forces formerly and currently. When asked about their experiences and learnings, some of GSF’s valued veterans shared their perspectives about their dedicated service, their selfless sacrifices, and the impact their experiences make on their current GSF contributions.
“The U.S. Marine Corps Values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment in many ways are in line with GSF’s own company Creed and Values. Honoring others for their service, support, and sacrifices; the courage required by our leadership and staff to make the hard decisions necessary to ensure a continuous and successful operation; and our commitment to maintaining the highest standards is an example of how my experience as a U.S. Marine impacts my contribution to the GSF family.” – Noel Matos, Flight Operations Captain (GSF Irvine, California)
“While serving in the United States Army for 17 years, I had the privilege of serving and working with a diverse background of people. Once I became a Leader of Soldiers, the Army helped me develop my oral and written communication skills, which I use daily to assist our great company and to promote safety for all. I have brought with me the 7 Army Values: Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage (LDRSHIP).” – Daniel Tong, Safety and Training Specialist (KanPak Arkansas City, Kansas)
“Leaders lead from the front. They set the example for others to follow.” – Tony Hernandez, Operations Manager (QCD Waipahu, Hawaii)
Other GSF veterans highlighted the skills they developed while serving in the military and how those skills support their success as a GSF associate.
“Leadership is the most valuable skill I have brought with me to help the company succeed. You are taught to multitask with the absence of orders and still complete the task at hand. I have taught many associates the fundamentals for multi-tasking and using time management to complete all tasks.” – David Carver, Production Supervisor (KanPak Arkansas City, Kansas)
“Courage, taking responsibility, decision making.” – Badr Shehata, Supply Chain (GSF Giza, Egypt)
“Leadership skills, strategic planning, as well as plan execution skills and effective communication skills (ensuring positive outcomes and mission accomplishment), are just some of the skills I’ve learned and developed in the U.S. Marine Corps, enabling me to apply these skills successfully at GSF.” – Noel Matos, Flight Operations Captain (GSF Irvine, California)
GSF veterans also offered words of advice to those transitioning from the military into the workforce.
“As a Veteran, you should always be proud of your service. Carry with you your Creed and Values, and remember that while serving, safety was always a top priority, just as safety is and always will be a top priority with GSF.” – Daniel Tong, Safety and Training Specialist (KanPak Arkansas City, Kansas)
“Deliver what you have promised.” – Ahmed Hassan, Operations Manager (GSF Giza, Egypt)
