It’s official! John Page, GSF Vice President and Corporate Counsel, is now the President of the National Bar Association (NBA), the nation’s oldest and largest national association of predominantly African-American lawyers and judges. John was sworn in on July 18 at an ‘installation’ ceremony held at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, Nev.
John is clearly proud to be leader of the NBA for his 2011-2012 Bar Year tenure, saying, “Lawyers play a big role in corporate America and society in general, from our legislative to our governing bodies. My role as NBA President will be to provide both subject matter expertise, counsel, good judgment and advocacy for issues that protect our clients in the pursuit of liberty, justice and equality.”
As NBA President, John works with 94 affiliate chapters of the NBA across the U.S. and internationally to focus on the rule of law, increasing the diversity in the law profession, and to provide independence of the judiciary through professional and business development programs for attorneys in the legal profession.
“I will be working with external partners and coalitions on issues and legislative matters ranging from health care, voter protection, immigration, education and judicial appointments,” added John.
The NBA was founded in 1925 and has its main offices in Washington, D.C. Its members include over 5,000 attorneys, judges, professors and law students. John was elected during the NBA’s 86th Annual Convention held July 31-August 4, 2011 in Baltimore, Md. John has a 22-year history of service to the NBA and served as NBA Vice President in 2007 and as Garden State Bar Association (NJ) President from 1998-2000.
