KanPak U.S. Purchases Penn Yan Factory

Golden State Foods -owned KanPak U.S. is pleased to announce today that it has finalized the acquisition of the Emmi Penn Yan Factory, a production facility for aseptic dairy products in Penn Yan, N.Y. KanPak executives look forward to growing the production site and plan on keeping on the existing workforce. As a specialist in the contract manufacturing of aseptic specialty products, KanPak U.S. specializes in the core business of the Penn Yan plant. This transition will give Emmi the ability focus more resources on its specialty cheese business in the U.S., while giving KanPak U.S. the opportunity to grow this state-of-the-art production facility, built in 2010. With its focus on contract manufacturing, KanPak U.S. has the capacity to advance the Penn Yan production site by further diversifying its U.S. customers, while expanding production and driving growth. “We’re pleased about this agreement with Emmi, which will enable GSF and KanPak to further diversify our U.S. customers,” said Larry McGill, GSF Corporate Vice President and President and Chief Executive Officer, KanPak U.S. “It was a great solution for both parties as we have the ability to expand production and drive growth, allowing Emmi to dedicate more resources to its specialty cheese business in the U.S.” KanPak U.S., headquartered in Arkansas City, Kan., was acquired by Golden State Foods in October, 2013 and produces a variety of dairy-based products such as smoothies, ice cream, milk shake base, packaged milk, coffees, creamers, frozen desserts, and specialty beverages. Dennis Cohlmia currently serves as Chairman of the Board of KanPak U.S. and previously served with his father, George Cohlmia, who originally founded KanPak in 1965. “We appreciate all that Dennis has done to establish and grow this long-term, family-run business over the past four decades and we look forward to continued growth through this new joint venture partnership,” added McGill.
