OC Business Journal Honors GSF with Innovator of the Year Award

September 24, 2020

Today, GSF’s Bob Wolpert, Corporate Senior Vice President, Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer, accepted an Innovator of the Year award from the Orange County Business Journal during a virtual event. The business publication’s sixth annual Innovator of the Year awards program recognized the the top five individuals who are creating game-changing products and services, while demonstrating brilliance and leadership in innovation.

“On behalf of the full GSF team of industry-leading innovators, I appreciate this acknowledgement of our progress in pioneering the combined use of blockchain, internet of things (IoT), and artificial intelligence (AI) to help shape the supply chain of the future,” said Bob. “In partnership with IBM, GSF has seized the opportunity to track, trace, and monitor food freshness and safety on behalf of our customers and the foodservice industry.”

GSF and IBM have addressed current challenges facing the beef supply chain, including end-to-end visibility and temperature compliance. Tracking and monitoring beef cases throughout the supply chain, from patty processing to the restaurant, GSF tagged cases with RFID labels, so permitted users could monitor the shipment in real time. The blockchain implementation leads to other benefits throughout the food supply chain, including effectively reducing reconciliation times and food waste, improving inventory accuracy, and optimizing inventory quantities.

“Many in GSF contributed, and I would like to specially thank GSF leaders Guilda Javaheri and Dr. Wayne Morgan for their vision, partnership, and hard work to make this a reality,” said Bob of the Innovator of the Year honor, which is based on GSF’s overall commitment to innovation and the support Bob provides as a champion for innovation throughout the company.

“I was very proud to share GSF innovations and our dedication to an innovation culture, including our ten Innovation Centers around the world, examples of our new product developments, and the GSF-KanPak COVID response of rapidly converting production to supply shelf-stable, bottled surplus milk to food banks. Everyone at GSF should be proud of how we support our customers and our communities,” Bob added.
